Research and Development

Merchem invests a substantial portion of its profits in Research and Development processes. The company has a centralized R&D centre at Cochin. The R&D centre is recognized by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi.

The R&D team works with the singular focus of developing green products and processes. It has been successful in developing processes for environment friendly, Nitrosamines-free accelerators, hindered phenolic antioxidants and antiozonants, leather chemicals and water treatment chemicals. Merchem takes pride that Mercure TBBS (Sulphonamide Accelerator) was the first TBBS to be produced in India. Similarly, Merdonor DTDM (Sulphur Donor) and Mercure AHB (Special Purpose Accelerator) were also indigenously produced by Merchem. Two new products from the R&D team are MERNOX L and Mercure TBzTD.

R&D efforts are also aimed at developing low cost, avant-garde products and continuous improvement of existing processes by cycle-time reduction, cost-efficiency and minimization of waste generation. The Process Development research carried out at the R&D helps Merchem deliver customized products. The R&D centre is equipped with high performance liquid chromatograph, high pressure autoclave, ultra cryostat, moisture analyzer and other relevant equipments for carrying out research in specialty organic chemicals.
